The aim of this department is to provide services under the best international standards of quality, based on prospective models and using automated systems, therefore insuring an effective use of blood resources.

At this department, several tests are done, among which are included: immunohematology, antibody scanning, identification of irregular antibodies, phenotype, genotype, identification of atypical blood discrepancies, and the research and follow up of newborn hemolytic diseases.

The following special procedures are carried out: therapeutic and donation apheresis, fractioning of specific hemoderivatives for therapeutic use.  The department is also in charge of the transfusion of hemoderivatives in short-staying patients under the close surveillance of qualified personnel without hospitalization.
